SYDNEY (AFP) - star of Hollywood Cate Blanchett Tuesday defended its decision to front a campaign for the promotion of the Australian Government carbon tax, saying that she supported by action on climate change for the sake of her children.

Nicknamed "Carbon Cate" by the Sunday Telegraph, the actor was attacked as a value of jet, multi-million dollar that has been disconnected from the ordinary Australian who fear an increase in the cost of the life of a price on carbon.

"I am not really surprised by the reactions of people on the other side of the debate." "People are entitled to their opinion," said Blanchett, who was dismissed in exhibit a comment as "just another morally vain Hollywood star".

The actor citizen, who has three young boys with husband Andrew Upton, said there was a cost to society of carbon pollution, and this is what she was passionate as a mother.

"This is where it gets me in the gut," she told The Sydney Morning Herald.

"I can't watch my children in the face if I'm not trying to do something in my small way and to encourage others."

"Yes, I had the chance of my career but that is no reason to not take a position for something that I deeply believe in."

Role star Blanchett in the new television campaign, which is funded by a coalition of trade unions and environmental groups and urges Australians to "Say Yes" to a carbon tax, has become a national topic of discussion in the debate on climate change.

The center-right opposition leader Tony Abbott used the endorsement of the celebrity to attack Prime Minister Julia Gillard to Parliament Monday.

"It is a Prime Minister who has the pleasure to listen to the actors, but it don't listen to the voters,"he says."

Australians are among the worst polluters of carbon per capita in the world and Gillard has proposed a tax levied on major industrial polluters by July 1, 2012, with plans for the show full scheme in three to five years.
