Slide show: 17 Leading EHR VendorsGE Healthcare launched Government-wide research (CR), a management solution (MRC) clinical research which aims to drive better management of the treatment of clinical research plans, methods and protocols while supporting research billing compliance. The tool can also integrate with electronic health records (EHR) systems.

A announced on 28 March, GE said that Government-wide search is first class business industry RCM. The software was introduced at a time when healthcare organizations adopt EHRs, digitize medical records and enables clinicians to electronically access patient information.

Michael Nolte, Vice President and General Manager of health it in GE Healthcare services, said in an interview that research Government can push and retrieve data to and from EHR systems.

"For example, when a new patient screening clinical research study, the patient is identified in EHR institution and all relevant patient information can be removed by CR," Nolte said. "When a patient actually past the stage of the review of the study and is finally registered, CR can grow basic study on information in the record of the patient in the EHR and emergency systems so that doctors or emergency intensive care know drug study or devices affecting the patient patientce should experience an adverse event serious."

Centricity research also helps institutions to conduct clinical research or translational manage the growing complexity of the requirements for compliance and research process. For example, said Nolte clinical research billing compliance requires a very varied set of processes and solutions to avoid increasing regulatory risk.

"Even the organizations that have a long history of investment in research in general have highly manual process, errors to manage that," said Nolte. "The advent of investment in other clinical systems (EHR, etc.) introduced an additional complexity in the patient care for patients participating in clinical research.". "Finally, organizations such as the consortium [clinical and Translational Science Awards] more create the need for research to have a company level view of their research activities to maximize the benefits of the National Institutes of Health clinical research investment in their institutions".

Built on the basis of the management platform of Protocol for the GE wide Patient, government-wide research supports the efforts of institutions and researchers in the realization of the compliance, security, and agency to facilitate audits.

According to Nolte, the new solution can help address the clinical trial policy established by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. It is often difficult to research sites and health agencies, which rarely have understanding, experience or the authority to define and implement a research billing solution conform to comply with these policies.

"Government-wide research allows research staff define all medical interventions that are part of a particular study and connect these events through supplier schedules and the schedule of fees to an institution planning and billing systems. Nolte said. "This process automatically labels the charges that a patient suffers in the study to the sponsor of the study or payer of the patient with little or no human intervention involved in the very manual and error prone"Bill hold"approach adopted by most academic medical centers to resolve this issue."

GE Healthcare also said that he has developed a strategic partnership with Mdlogix, who developed his MRCS in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and other clinical research establishments.

"The deployment of the company of the MRC at Johns Hopkins includes all departments in the school of medicine," Dr. Dan Ford, vice dean of clinical research at the University, said in a statement. "We currently have over 4,000 protocols in the RCM, with more than 1,100 of those being active, and approximately 25% of these protocols [are] using the MRC only at the discretion of the researchers themselves because of the value that they benefit from the system. The MRC has helped us more effectively manage the 30% increase, that we have reached the number of research studies at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine since 2007. ?

Centricity research helps ensure compliance with the protocols and maximizes clinical research dollars. In addition to EHR systems, the software can integrate with a variety of existing institutional systems, including electronic systems of institutional control and revenue cycle management systems.
