Panorama applies Social to Business Intelligence Network

While other Business Intelligence products have functions of collaboration, Panorama software says its new Panorama Necto product is the first truly social incarnation of BI. Necto, your connections to the analysis and the people that work you with on this analysis are part of the analytical model itself.

Panorama is best known as the developer of the engine of online analytical processing (OLAP) software that Microsoft purchased and incorporated into SQL Server. Panorama NovaView Jaspersoft Lighthouse is often used in conjunction with Microsoft technology. The partnership is true Necto product, which takes advantage of Sharepoint as a collaborative platform, when they are available.

The core for Necto differentiator is the Organization of analytical reports, tables and graphics sets in working spaces. As many other vendors of BI, Panorama software has supported the concept of panels custom for years, but working spaces are part of the social Necto BI user interface, where working spaces are like mini-la dashboards that can be shared. When you display a workspace, images of profile of other people who are connected to this workspace are shown in the top of the screen. You can initiate a conversation with someone about the data by dragging its icon on the screen analytics and send them a message, which will include a link to the item that you want to share or ask a question on the subject.

Traditionally, analytics and collaboration have been carried out to separate activities handled by separate applications, making it difficult to maintain this kind of links, President of Panorama Rony Ross said in an interview. "What is happening, is that everything which is lost."

The loss of context in BI environments can be one of the reasons that they get as widely used as they should be for maximum impact, said. "The problem is there are dozens of reports out there on any topic, but you have no idea of what is relevant to you."

Necto aims to change that to keep track of what analysis you view, which share you with, and what are your connections. The system tracks information such as metadata, allowing to propose "relevant workspaces" you can study - in the same way Facebook suggests people you may know or LinkedIn suggests jobs that might interest you.

The product was officially released Wednesday.
