Guerra in health care: cut ties with a vendor of rem

If you are in the unenviable position of break with your provider of electronic medical record honesty, transparency and frankness, go a long way. By Anthony guerra InformationWeek
March 22, 2011 08: 00 AM most of the time, there is a correlation between big bucks and great responsibility, big bucks and long hours of hard work grinding tighter. Most of the time, big shots to breathless cash to get a few great strategic decisions, right, instead of being personally involved with countless small.

Equally true is the fact that you are not paid to manage the 95% of the routine that face you every day, rather the extraordinary difficulties that take advantage of your years of experience, analytical capabilities and prowess of management during a crisisWhen relatively fast decisions are made and effectively operational. (Think that dreaded call during the night of your desk help communicate that the network is and all your applications are dead in the water.) Oh, and it happens just as the week after you finally finished your campaign "paper have disappeared! (Oh, why let you put your image on the guarantee of marketing internal?)

The extraordinary situation, I think today is one I heard on of more and more in my IOC - say commitment to vendor discussions. A marriage is a big celebration, but the divorce can be hell. Front right collaborative up, most agree that it is preferable to look inward to why the marriage failed, fear that the relation with the number two of the wife is equivalent to a resumption of the first. But when "irreconcilable" require a split, there are some best practices that can be followed to facilitate the transition.

If you have already seen the movie "War of the Roses" with Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner, you may remember a scene in which Danny DeVito (Douglas divorce lawyer) urges another of his clients to return to his wife and try to run. If this does occur, said DeVito, give until it hurts, give everything and then even more give. Be as generous as you can be humanly, because the alternative is a battle all azimut, ugly and nasty, that such that you cannot imagine.

While the IOC that I spoke with who (or which are currently) navigate a divorce of the seller did not get that many, their practices copies echo what lies at the heart of the message of DeVito - be understanding of what passes through the other sidebe kind, respectful, courteous and, above all, honest, honest and transparent. Communicate the impending separation as soon as possible, lest they hear through the grapevine or (worse) read on the Internet. If you do not, honestly (even if strongly) say to the other party why you need to divide. Often, their initial anger or disappointment will be morphing in the understanding and appreciation over time.

Another principle at the heart of successful separation is the age old adage, "Don't burn your bridges." Although each industry appears to be restricted to those nestled in the it, health care is a small world. With LinkedIn, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (Carillon) and the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), it would be scandalous that you connect with all members of this industry by, at most, two degrees of separation. Indeed, the inpatient electronic record (EMR) of the medical community seller is close to microscopic. With seven great players, it is likely that you will run in a holder who leaves the new need you switch jobs. People who had to face unpleasant news of professionally in memory for a long time, but those who have been manipulated approximately you'll remember forever.

DIS commitment from the seller, as the termination of an employee of the problem, is one of the situations that you are paid to process and manage the property. Apply the principles and ethics that will make you successful in any situation, and will they serve you just as well here. And do not despair because with shooting comes to hiring, so you say goodbye to the licensee with compassion, you can expect to receive the partner with exuberance.
